WHERE JOY IS ART

ABOUT US

“We are Sarah and Paul Planton and we are based in Shropshire, England.

Our first introduction to Haitian art came while staying with a friend in the Caribbean. He had a few paintings on his walls and we were instantly smitten and captivated by their vitality, exuberance and colour. We returned from that trip with our first paintings.

That was thirty years ago.  We have been buying Haitian art ever since then and over the years we have made many good friends and contacts, and filled our walls with wonderful paintings.

Our involvement with Haitian art has in turn given us some understanding of the circumstances under which these paintings are created, and of the country itself.  Haiti is a desperately poor country, where to survive is to struggle, and from where the export and sale of artworks provides a source of income for the artists, their families and communities.

We started our gallery to provide another shop window for the artists, and art, of Haiti, and to do something positive in return for the sheer joy this art has brought us over the years. As well as supporting the artists through our sales, we will be donating 50% of any profits to charities working in Haiti, like The Vassar Haiti Project (see links page) whose work is invaluable within Haiti on a personal, immediate and measurable scale.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the gallery, and find joy in the art you see.
